Climate

Many of the ideas that now define how we think about climate first originated at the UW. Over the last 20 years, UW scientists have developed some of science's most fundamental theories about earth's climate, biochemical processes and environmental impacts. These discoveries have opened up some of today's most exciting and promising research areas - new directions where UW scientists are again taking the lead.

Explore the following for examples of our work.

»
Polar Science Center - Even in the darkness and numbing cold of the long Arctic winters, an international research team led by the UW is collecting environmental data and monitoring how the Arctic Ocean helps regulate the global climate.
»
Climate Impacts Group - From the frigid waters of British Columbia to the remote headlands of the Columbia River, students and scientists are assessing and projecting the impacts of climate variability and change in the Pacific Northwest.
»
Program on Climate Change - The UW is preparing future leaders to address climate challenges by integrating its unique strengths in oceanography, atmospheric sciences and earth and space sciences.
»
Quaternary Research Center - UW scientists and students study the processes responsible for environmental change to better understand how the Earth sustains humanity and other communities and to better prepare for future environmental changes.

UW Environment A-Z - Alphabetical listing of UW programs and departments engaged in environmental research and study.
